Worship Night - Recap

Worship Night - Recap

Jesus - What a Powerful Name It Is

The name of Jesus is powerful! This was the theme for Sunday's Worship Night at My City Church. We were surrounded by an energetic atmosphere created by such amazing people dancing, singing and raising their hands to God in worship! We had several people commit their lives to Christ and were able to celebrate those lives and give thanks to God as a community for allowing His spirit to be so present and moving in the lives of every person there.

Our ‘Mission Statement’ is: “My City Church exists... to lift up Jesus in our city by loving people and empowering leaders in every sphere of life.”

Within the worship experience, we lived that out. With a message centered completely around Jesus, to a room full of more than 200 people, God showed up; as He always does. In a place filled with His presence, we learned there can be a stigma that comes with the name Jesus and it is different for everyone. We all have preconceived notions and different adjectives we associate with the name of Jesus.

But here is what the Bible tells us: In John 3:16 it says, “This is how much God loved the world: that He gave his Son so that no one need be destroyed; but by believing in Him, anyone can have whole and lasting life.” We believe this at My City Church and that is why the adjectives we would use to describe Jesus are those resembling: Redeemer, Pursuer, Conqueror, etc.

The thing about Jesus is that He came to us because of how much He loved us, not because we did anything to earn salvation. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Sin fractured our relationship with God and we have ALL been born into sin, regardless of what that looks like. Jesus came to earth because Jesus wanted to show us, it is not only what God says, but the actions He took that prove His love for us.

With the understanding that we cannot earn salvation or God's love, we know that sin isn't a behavior issue. It’s natural and it is all around us. But that is where the rescuing power of Jesus comes in. Jesus came for us not so we would have behavior modification, but something much greater. Something we value at a much higher price. Jesus came for our heart transformation. He did not come so we would behave well, but so we could move from being dead to alive! In that salvation our heart changes, our mind changes and our behavior is a result of receiving salvation.

God wants our hearts. He wants us to win in life! He knows what is best for us and all He desires is for us to make Him the love of our life! At My City Church, we believe we all are one decision away from life change. One decision away from hope, joy, a prosperous life, a calling of God. These things are all possible with Jesus. He has the one name who can turn impossible into possible, that can bring us from death to life.

Seventh Team Gathering - Recap

Seventh Team Gathering - Recap

Team Night was incredible! We had so many people come together to experience Jesus. We worshiped, we laughed, and learned what it means to LEAD in LIFE. On top of that we had Crew updates, discussed upcoming events and even got a glimpse into Next Steps at My City Church, more info to come! Let's learn what it means to LEAD in LIFE, take a look at our leadership moto!

"I am a leader. I am a person of influence. Today I choose to be a blessing. With God’s help, there is nothing that I cannot do. Instead of being reactive, I will be proactive. I know the answer, I am the solution."

We believe in the leadership potential of every person, by taking every opportunity to raise up the next generation of leaders. Whether you realize it or not, you are a leader. It’s not something we do, rather it’s who we are. Leadership lies in the way we think, process and solve problems. The greatest form of leadership is providing a solution to a problem. Anyone can point out a problem or even see the potential of a problem arising, but a leader will find and implement a solution.

Problems lie within the battle of wills. There are 3 wills that are constantly fighting against each other. We have our will (free will) to determine what is right and wrong, God’s will to bring Heaven to earth, and the devil’s will to steal, kill and destroy.

First we understand sin isn’t something we do,  otherwise we'd stop doing it. Sin is something we’re born into and we can’t undo the nature of sin, that's why we need Jesus to intervene. We can’t beat sin by trying harder, but by experiencing the power of Jesus and letting God’s will prevail against the others. Even in the middle of our darkest moments, God is always at His best. His presence is always with us! In His perfect will for our life, we have the choice to lead in every sphere of life. Whatever life looks like, being a student, parent or businessman, He is going to give us the resources to lead and succeed. We have to truly believe God wants us to win, be blessed and He’s with us every step of the way.

WORSHIP NIGHT - The definition of worship is: The feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for God. Worship is not just about singing along to a song, but loving God by showing Him respect. We can worship God in our day to day lives by allowing Him to fill us with His spirit, and letting that determine our actions, interactions and reactions to people and situations. And we as a community of people that love God and desire to express that love are looking forward to worship together!

We are so excited to worship as My City Church on July 16th at 5pm at the Thompson Center at UNO. This will be a time to come together and love God and praise Him for who He is and what He has done in our personal lives as well as the work that He is doing in our city of Omaha, Nebraska! RSVP HERE

Sixth Team Gathering - Recap

Sixth Team Gathering - Recap

We had another awesome night on Sunday with the My City Church team as we dove further into our core value of being Excellent in Spirit, talked about CREWS that are going on this week and our upcoming PRAYER night and WORSHIP night!

EXCELLENT IN SPIRIT

We’re going to always do the best with what we have. We’re on time, engaged, and prepared. We pay attention to the details. If we’re going to do it, it’s to the best of our ability.

Daniel 6:3 (ESV) - Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.

My City Church is all about serving our city, Omaha, Nebraska. We do not want to be a community of people who just do good things, we want to do everything with the core value of “Excellent in Spirit” in mind. We want to leave every place better than we found it. We will pursue excellency by continually going the extra mile in our church, our jobs, our family and most importantly our intimacy with God. Being excellent in spirit does not revolve around simply not cutting corners but striving to exceed all expectations and going above and beyond the tasks set before us.

The main focus of this core value has nothing to do with our actions though, it has everything to do with our hearts. When we pursue Jesus whole-heartedly, the tendency to have a better attitude and more excellent work ethic follows. When we accept the value of excellent in spirit into our hearts, our actions follow it in our everyday lives. When we operate from a spirit-filled mindset, our actions align with our hearts. We cannot earn God’s love by “doing good things” but we can love God by allowing our everyday lifestyle to worship Him and bring Him glory.

We are so excited to worship together at My City Church on June 25th at 5pm at the Thompson Center at UNO. This will be a time to come together and love God and praise Him for who He is and what He has done in our personal lives as well as the work that He is doing in our city of Omaha, Nebraska! CREW WEEK - We are so pumped for another week of CREWS! There are 7 CREWS going on all over Omaha from Tuesday to Saturday! So check out the different days and locations and find one that works for you! We cannot wait to see you there! Sign up HERE

LOVING PEOPLE.

LOVING PEOPLE.

Podbean.jpg

At My City Church we have a simple theme we live by. We want to LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE, and LEAD IN LIFE. Today, I want to focus in on LOVING PEOPLE. Let’s look at where this topic comes up in the Bible.

Matthew 22:36-40 (NKJV)
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”  Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves. There is no greater way to show love to our neighbor than to introduce them to Jesus and His grace. This is the most important thing that we can do in life. In order to do this it will take the following:

SEE THE NEED

In order to make a difference we have to see the need. There are people all around us that are going through hard times. The world is in need of HOPE. There is no one that provides HOPE like Jesus. You would be surprised how open people are to Jesus when we share Him authentically with love and grace.

MAKE THE EFFORT

Reaching out to people takes effort. It requires us to get out of our comfort zone. Inviting people to church is a simple way to make the effort, but we have to be intentional about it. So here is the question: Who are you making the effort with today?

REMEMBER THE SOURCE

We cannot save anyone, only Jesus can do that. We are simply the invitation. When we do our part Jesus will do His. So take the pressure off and simply reach out to someone with an invitation and then follow-up with it. It make take several times, but keep making the effort.

At My City Church we want to be focused on reaching those that are far away from God. This requires us to see the great need in our city, make the effort, and watch Jesus change people’s lives. Let’s be a people that that love our neighbors be simply extended an invitation to something that could change their lives.

Easter Sunday Recap

Easter Sunday Recap

Have you ever had a situation not turn out the way you thought it was going to? You have an idea of how things are going to unfold and then all of a sudden everything turned into a tumultuous mess. It seems that situations turn out for the worst, but in the bigger picture it turned out for the best!

This was a similar experience for the disciples who followed Jesus. They were with Jesus for 3 years, giving Him their time and passion just for their time together to come to an end with Jesus on the cross. We can only imagine the thoughts running through their minds as they encountered this unexpected outcome, like why did this happen to them, what did it mean for the direction of their lives and what were they supposed to do now?

My City Church got to hear from Pastor Jesse Norman, this last Sunday, on Easter about what exactly the death of Jesus on the cross meant as we gathered together in Omaha, NE, at the Thompson Center at UNO. This was a preview service for My City Church’s official launch on September 17, 2017. The main theme for the message was this: The Cross Equals Love.

In this message we focused on the Apostle Paul’s writings found in 1 Corinthians 15 as he reflected on the people Jesus appeared to after His resurrection. It is within these stories that the message of the cross is brought to life. An important question to encapsulate all of the possible questions running through Jesus’ followers as He died on the cross is this: What is the meaning of the cross?

The Cross Equals Love:

This is the reality and message of the cross. It is God’s message to humanity that says you are SO LOVED. The disciples did not understand the concept. They only saw the cross as a brutal death, a means to an end for Jesus. Little did they know, it was just a piece of the bigger picture! It is only through the power of the resurrection they could truly understand the meaning of the cross.

THE WORK OF JESUS DIDN'T END AT THE CROSS, IT STARTED AT THE RESURRECTION

By truly understanding it's LOVE that drove Jesus to the cross and then out of the grave, we experience the fullness of His love for us! As the message came to an end, My City Church was able to know and experience the love of Jesus in a new perspective. We as a church were so celebratory as 14 people accepted the gift of salvation upon hearing the message and letting God work in their hearts! We were so encouraged to see God work so evidently in the hearts and the minds of those who attended!

My City Kids

The kids programs were equally as impactful as kids were able to learn a message about God’s love for them! They focused on John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son…” The kids also got to break off into their Crews and ask questions about God and express their love for Him. They also learned more about why God loves each and every one of them! The service was then followed by an Easter Egg hunt for all the families to get together and have fun!

Interest Party

We are so thrilled for our very first Interest Party on April 30, at the Thompson Center at UNO from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. This is an opportunity for anyone to come hear about the vision of My City Church. It's a party, so come ready to have fun! We are not asking for any kind of commitments - just that you come and hear the vision and be inspired!

Fourth Team Gathering - Recap

Fourth Team Gathering - Recap

What an amazing Team Night this last Sunday with over 140 people who came together to hear about our next core value: Faith-Filled in Confession. My City Church is a church in Omaha, NE that is full of faith. We also got to hear about our awesome week of CREWS, our first Interest Party and more about our upcoming Easter Worship Experience! We also got the wonderful privilege of kicking off our Kids CREWS as a part of our Kids Program!

Core Value: FAITH-FILLED IN CONFESSION is simply that we look into the future with great expectation. We honor the past, but are most loyal to our future. Our language is full of faith knowing that the best is yet to come!

At My City Church in Omaha, NE we want to build a culture that is full of faith. Faith is heard in our language and in our attitude. We learned that faith first starts in our heart - then moves to our head - then comes out of our mouth. We truly do believe that THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

CREWS were a hit this last week as we talked deeper about more of the core values at My City Church. We got to hear people’s stories and experiences with what it meant to live a life that was all Inclusive in Nature. People shared stories of feeling alienated in places and what that looked like as well as experiences feeling especially welcomed. We go to learn from each others’ experiences on how to better live a life that was inclusive to anyone and everyone! We want to be a community of people who are known for genuinely caring for and loving others regardless of their past.

The kids who participated in the Kids Program during the Team Night also got to experience their first CREW! The kids were able to learn more about God's love for each and every one of them and were able to ask questions, worship together and then their CREW ended with some really sweet prayer time!

My City Church is so excited for our Easter Service on Easter Sunday at 10am at the Thompson Center at UNO. The Cross Equals Love will be a preview worship experience for My City Church. Pastor Jesse Norman will be leading the service and we will also be offering a full Kids Program that will mirror the message Pastor Jesse will be giving so families can share what they learned together!

NEXT TEAM MEETING

SUNDAY | MARCH 19TH | 5PM

First Team Gathering - Recap

A group of 125 people gathered together for the very first team night to hear about the vision God has placed in the hearts and minds of Jesse and Angela Norman.

The night was preceded by months of prayer for each individual person, casting the vision clearly, and people leaving the meeting encouraged and excited to have found a home. Home in the local church, gathered together to serve Omaha, Nebraska, in a new and impactful way. The mission is quite simple, to lift up Jesus by loving people and empowering leaders in all spheres of life. We are a passionate everyone seeking to love God, Love people and lead in life.

My City Church has a plan to fulfill this vision by implementing Crews all over Omaha, a place to simply connect and converse with people over dinner, then there is our Track system that equips you to lead in life, where we get to better understand the Core Values of My City church which propels you to then hop on the Team with us!

My City Church will offer 4 Tracks that are specifically designed to help you understand My City Church and where you can best use your talents and spiritual gifts.

Engage 101: This class is a basic introduction to our church family. Since we have members from many different church and cultural backgrounds, this class was designed to clearly explain who we are and what we believe.

Establish 201: Our hope is to help you establish biblical foundations by looking at four important habits for disciples. It is through these habits that we establish a strong relationship with Jesus.

Equip 301: Our hope is that you take a step towards understanding how your uniquely designed personality, coupled with the spiritual gifts God has given you, helps reveal a fulfilling path to your destiny. Together, let’s discover all that God has planned for our generation and make a positive difference for the Kingdom.

Empower 401: Our hope is to provide you with clear “next steps” to move onto a Team and into your purpose by providing training and vision.

There are plenty of teams to serve on and share your gifts with those around you. The teams have a variety of responsibilities and different time commitments so if you need more flexibility in your schedule we still have a place for you! There are currently 14 teams you can serve on:

  • Guest Services
  • Creative
  • Kids
  • Guest Relations
  • Central Services
  • Track
  • Load in/Load out
  • Production
  • I Love My City
  • Youth
  • Events
  • Crews

Granted, not all of these Teams can be joined right now since we have not launched Sunday services but there is a way you can get connected with the Church and the people in it. By being a part of a Crew and joining Launch Team! We believe that by building people’s lives we build the Church. My City CREWS are small gatherings of 10-15 people who meet at different cafés and restaurants around Omaha to hang, eat, and talk about life. These gatherings take place every 2nd and 4th week of the month. We currently have one on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights at 7pm at different locations around Omaha.

Our next team gathering is on March 5th at 5pm at the Thompson Center at UNO. You can RSVP for the event HERE.

Or visit us at www.mycitychurch.cc/events to find out more information. God is up to something big at My City Church and now is the time to get involved. We know that THE BEST IS YET TO COME in your life!

Core Values - UNITED IN JESUS

More than building a great church, we want to build a great culture. Culture is the vibe in the air people experience when they walk into My City Church. Culture can be defined as:

CULTURE is a system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs, which governs how people behave in groups.

At My City Church we want to build a culture full of life and passion. Our team always says we want to do something that is alive, fresh, and brand new. One of the elements that makes up the My City Church culture are our shared values. These values are convictions we are passionate about that guide our decisions, attitudes, and behaviors. Our first My City Church value is:

UNITED IN JESUS
We are united under no other name, but the name of Jesus. More than any method or personal preference, we are focused on Jesus and His message.

This value is at the center of all that we do. We are JESUS people, not religious people. Methods will come and go, but our message will remain the same. We believe Jesus has to be at the center of all that we do. He is the center of our thoughts, relationships, families, and our church culture. Often times people ask me what kind of church is My City Church. I always answer: My City Church is a JESUS CHURCH. Jesus is the focus, the message, and the center of all that we do.

In church it is easy to get sidetracked on things that don’t matter.

What kind of small groups are you going to do? What will the worship be like?

These are great questions, but they are not the most important thing. JESUS and the message of the gospel are our true north. We will try anything short of sinning to reach people with the love of Christ. Our methods will change all the time, but our message never will. We are JESUS people.

My heart is to build a church that keeps the main thing the main thing. We will focus on Jesus, preach Jesus, and do whatever we have to in order to reach people for Jesus.

We value this, because we are UNITED IN JESUS. With Jesus at the center, we cannot lose. We are believing that God is bringing a group of people together at My City Church who will love Jesus and His mission with all their heart. We are a church that is UNITED IN JESUS!!

The Best is Yet to Come!

The Church I See

Church is a place where worship is lifted up and people's lives are changed. At My City Church we have a clear vision of what we are building. I see a church rising up in Omaha, NE for God's glory. I want to share with you what I see that church looking like.

THE CHURCH I SEE

The Church that I see is: a Church full of life; a Church that is committed to fulfilling the Great Commission by living out the Great Commandment; a Church that is committed to Loving God, Loving People, and Leading in Life.

I see a Church that influences cities toward Christ; a Church so large in size that it changes the spirit of the city and captivates the attention of its people.

I see a Church where people who are far away from God are engaged with the love of Christ; a Church where salvation is preached and hearts are turned back to a loving Savior; a Church that is known for its compassion and grace-filled message of redemption.

I see a Church that is united in Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit; a Church that moves in power and carries light to the darkest places of the city; a Church that is committed to see a revival spirit break out and transform culture.

I see a Church so inclusive in nature that people from all walks of life find a place they call home; a Church that welcomes the broken with love, compassion, and hope; a Church where people belong even before they believe.

I see a Church that pushes the boundaries of what has been done before; a Church that uses every available technology to disciple and proclaim the message of Jesus Christ.

I see a Church that is committed to the empowerment of leaders; a Church that is on the move planting, building, and developing the local church; a Church where the God given potential of each person is realized and released for Kingdom purposes.

I see a Church that is united in Jesus, inclusive in nature, faith-filled in confession, passionate in expression, generous in action, excellent in spirit, and leads in every sphere of life.

Yes, the Church that I see could well be our church - My City Church.

Grace Zone

Church planting is a GRACE and if you stay ‘within the sphere of the grace God has given you,’ His favor and blessing will be on your endeavors.
— Brian Houston, Hillsong Church

Church planting is not for the faint of heart. It will challenge every part of your world. There are natural battles and spiritual battles, but in it all God is with you. The key is to stay in your grace zone. We believe My City Church has a grace zone in the city of Omaha, NE. We believe God has called us to build a life-giving church that will reach the lost and hurting in our city.

At My City Church we will be laser-focused on reaching the lost. People are looking for something, and we believe the answer is Jesus. The reality is that we cannot save anyone, but we can love them. At My City Church we have a simple mission:

My City Church exists… to lift up Jesus in our city by loving people and empowering leaders in every sphere of life.

That is what we want to do in a big way. We want to create a church where people can encounter the love of Jesus and encounter people who love them like Jesus. We believe that this is our grace zone. We want to:

LOVE GOD. LOVE PEOPLE. LEAD IN LIFE.

With God’s help we are going to build a church that influences Omaha toward Jesus. We are looking for people who believe in this mission to partner with us. We would love for you to pray, give, and build with us in 2017.

We believe God is with us, and with His help a brand new life-giving church is going to arise in Omaha, NE. We love you and hope that you stop back by the blog to stay in the loop.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
