Worship Night - Recap

Jesus - What a Powerful Name It Is

The name of Jesus is powerful! This was the theme for Sunday's Worship Night at My City Church. We were surrounded by an energetic atmosphere created by such amazing people dancing, singing and raising their hands to God in worship! We had several people commit their lives to Christ and were able to celebrate those lives and give thanks to God as a community for allowing His spirit to be so present and moving in the lives of every person there.

Our ‘Mission Statement’ is: “My City Church exists... to lift up Jesus in our city by loving people and empowering leaders in every sphere of life.”

Within the worship experience, we lived that out. With a message centered completely around Jesus, to a room full of more than 200 people, God showed up; as He always does. In a place filled with His presence, we learned there can be a stigma that comes with the name Jesus and it is different for everyone. We all have preconceived notions and different adjectives we associate with the name of Jesus.

But here is what the Bible tells us: In John 3:16 it says, “This is how much God loved the world: that He gave his Son so that no one need be destroyed; but by believing in Him, anyone can have whole and lasting life.” We believe this at My City Church and that is why the adjectives we would use to describe Jesus are those resembling: Redeemer, Pursuer, Conqueror, etc.

The thing about Jesus is that He came to us because of how much He loved us, not because we did anything to earn salvation. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Sin fractured our relationship with God and we have ALL been born into sin, regardless of what that looks like. Jesus came to earth because Jesus wanted to show us, it is not only what God says, but the actions He took that prove His love for us.

With the understanding that we cannot earn salvation or God's love, we know that sin isn't a behavior issue. It’s natural and it is all around us. But that is where the rescuing power of Jesus comes in. Jesus came for us not so we would have behavior modification, but something much greater. Something we value at a much higher price. Jesus came for our heart transformation. He did not come so we would behave well, but so we could move from being dead to alive! In that salvation our heart changes, our mind changes and our behavior is a result of receiving salvation.

God wants our hearts. He wants us to win in life! He knows what is best for us and all He desires is for us to make Him the love of our life! At My City Church, we believe we all are one decision away from life change. One decision away from hope, joy, a prosperous life, a calling of God. These things are all possible with Jesus. He has the one name who can turn impossible into possible, that can bring us from death to life.

Easter Sunday Recap

Easter Sunday Recap

Have you ever had a situation not turn out the way you thought it was going to? You have an idea of how things are going to unfold and then all of a sudden everything turned into a tumultuous mess. It seems that situations turn out for the worst, but in the bigger picture it turned out for the best!

This was a similar experience for the disciples who followed Jesus. They were with Jesus for 3 years, giving Him their time and passion just for their time together to come to an end with Jesus on the cross. We can only imagine the thoughts running through their minds as they encountered this unexpected outcome, like why did this happen to them, what did it mean for the direction of their lives and what were they supposed to do now?

My City Church got to hear from Pastor Jesse Norman, this last Sunday, on Easter about what exactly the death of Jesus on the cross meant as we gathered together in Omaha, NE, at the Thompson Center at UNO. This was a preview service for My City Church’s official launch on September 17, 2017. The main theme for the message was this: The Cross Equals Love.

In this message we focused on the Apostle Paul’s writings found in 1 Corinthians 15 as he reflected on the people Jesus appeared to after His resurrection. It is within these stories that the message of the cross is brought to life. An important question to encapsulate all of the possible questions running through Jesus’ followers as He died on the cross is this: What is the meaning of the cross?

The Cross Equals Love:

This is the reality and message of the cross. It is God’s message to humanity that says you are SO LOVED. The disciples did not understand the concept. They only saw the cross as a brutal death, a means to an end for Jesus. Little did they know, it was just a piece of the bigger picture! It is only through the power of the resurrection they could truly understand the meaning of the cross.

By truly understanding it's LOVE that drove Jesus to the cross and then out of the grave, we experience the fullness of His love for us! As the message came to an end, My City Church was able to know and experience the love of Jesus in a new perspective. We as a church were so celebratory as 14 people accepted the gift of salvation upon hearing the message and letting God work in their hearts! We were so encouraged to see God work so evidently in the hearts and the minds of those who attended!

My City Kids

The kids programs were equally as impactful as kids were able to learn a message about God’s love for them! They focused on John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son…” The kids also got to break off into their Crews and ask questions about God and express their love for Him. They also learned more about why God loves each and every one of them! The service was then followed by an Easter Egg hunt for all the families to get together and have fun!

Interest Party

We are so thrilled for our very first Interest Party on April 30, at the Thompson Center at UNO from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. This is an opportunity for anyone to come hear about the vision of My City Church. It's a party, so come ready to have fun! We are not asking for any kind of commitments - just that you come and hear the vision and be inspired!
