LOVING PEOPLE.

LOVING PEOPLE.

Podbean.jpg

At My City Church we have a simple theme we live by. We want to LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE, and LEAD IN LIFE. Today, I want to focus in on LOVING PEOPLE. Let’s look at where this topic comes up in the Bible.

Matthew 22:36-40 (NKJV)
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”  Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves. There is no greater way to show love to our neighbor than to introduce them to Jesus and His grace. This is the most important thing that we can do in life. In order to do this it will take the following:

SEE THE NEED

In order to make a difference we have to see the need. There are people all around us that are going through hard times. The world is in need of HOPE. There is no one that provides HOPE like Jesus. You would be surprised how open people are to Jesus when we share Him authentically with love and grace.

MAKE THE EFFORT

Reaching out to people takes effort. It requires us to get out of our comfort zone. Inviting people to church is a simple way to make the effort, but we have to be intentional about it. So here is the question: Who are you making the effort with today?

REMEMBER THE SOURCE

We cannot save anyone, only Jesus can do that. We are simply the invitation. When we do our part Jesus will do His. So take the pressure off and simply reach out to someone with an invitation and then follow-up with it. It make take several times, but keep making the effort.

At My City Church we want to be focused on reaching those that are far away from God. This requires us to see the great need in our city, make the effort, and watch Jesus change people’s lives. Let’s be a people that that love our neighbors be simply extended an invitation to something that could change their lives.

Third Team Gathering - Recap

What an amazing Team Night last Sunday, regardless of Spring Break we still had well over 100 people gathered together to hear about our next core value: INCLUSIVE IN NATURE. We also got to hear about the growth of CREWS, our upcoming PRAYER NIGHT, and our Easter Service that My City Church will be holding.

Core Value: INCLUSIVE IN NATURE  is all about how our passion is for ALL people. We make no apologies for being specifically focused on reaching the lost. We go out of our way to create an atmosphere where others belong even before they believe. We’re a community of people ready to love on others, not judge them. Whether you’re a single mom, a young family, a college student, we want you to know that you belong here! There are no prerequisites to getting involved, just come check it out and feel welcomed as you walk into My City Church! WELCOME HOME!

CREWS are continually growing and it is so amazing how willing everyone is to step out of their comfort zones and create new relationships within their CREWS. Over 120 people gathered last week in CREWS all around the city. Everyone is growing closer together as they share meals and share about what’s going on in each others’ lives! Every CREW is different and diverse and is continually expanding with each CREW meet up! There absolutely is a CREW for you! Where you can make tight personal connections with others and grow in your faith together!

PRAYER NIGHT is this Wednesday, March 22nd at 7PM at the Thompson Center at UNO. Come, bring your family and friends to pray together over My City Church and over our city of Omaha! Prayer is vital foundation that the church stands on and fully believes in! We are being sent on mission to reach Omaha in a new and effective way! Through prayer together we can encounter Jesus in a real and personal way and see how He wants to use My City Church to fulfill His plans!

EASTER SUNDAY: My City Church is holding a service at the Thompson Center at UNO on Easter Sunday, April 16, from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Second Team Gathering - Recap

Second Team Gathering - Recap

My City Church is so excited to be integrating a new Core Values series into our Team Nights. Last Sunday we started off with one of our core values: UNITED IN JESUS. We are also really pumped about our next set of Crews that are meeting up next week, March 14th to 18th! We have already outgrown our spaces and have launched 2 new crews! Along with Team Nights and Crews we are announcing a PRAYER NIGHT that will be held on Wednesday, March 22 at 7PM at the Thompson Center at UNO.

UNITED IN JESUS is the first core value of My City Church that we were able to share about with 165 others attending our last Team Night! We believe that we are united under no other name, but the name of Jesus. More than any method or personal preference, we are focused on Jesus and His message. Our passion is to love and serve Omaha in a creative and fresh way by using our individual talents and unique strengths, but all with the same purpose and same heart!

CREWS are off to an awesome start, we started with 3 Crews and are now spreading further across Omaha with 2 more! Crews are all about sharing our lives together over dinner and having conversations about the role that faith plays in our life. We get to meet new friends and love each other hard! We’re all inclusive and would love to keep launching more Crews, so sign up by clicking the link and check one out! SIGN UP HERE

PRAYER is one of the most vital foundations of who we are at My City Church. We love to spend our time together encountering Jesus in a personal way. My City Church believes in the power of prayer in such a way that we can ask Him to do big and impactful things and know that He hears and will answer our prayers because He has already called us to live on mission in Omaha with the specific purpose to lift up Jesus and empower leaders in all spheres of life. Make sure to check out our next Prayer Night on March 22, at 7PM at the UNO Thompson Center.

Core Values - UNITED IN JESUS

More than building a great church, we want to build a great culture. Culture is the vibe in the air people experience when they walk into My City Church. Culture can be defined as:

CULTURE is a system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs, which governs how people behave in groups.

At My City Church we want to build a culture full of life and passion. Our team always says we want to do something that is alive, fresh, and brand new. One of the elements that makes up the My City Church culture are our shared values. These values are convictions we are passionate about that guide our decisions, attitudes, and behaviors. Our first My City Church value is:

UNITED IN JESUS
We are united under no other name, but the name of Jesus. More than any method or personal preference, we are focused on Jesus and His message.

This value is at the center of all that we do. We are JESUS people, not religious people. Methods will come and go, but our message will remain the same. We believe Jesus has to be at the center of all that we do. He is the center of our thoughts, relationships, families, and our church culture. Often times people ask me what kind of church is My City Church. I always answer: My City Church is a JESUS CHURCH. Jesus is the focus, the message, and the center of all that we do.

In church it is easy to get sidetracked on things that don’t matter.

What kind of small groups are you going to do? What will the worship be like?

These are great questions, but they are not the most important thing. JESUS and the message of the gospel are our true north. We will try anything short of sinning to reach people with the love of Christ. Our methods will change all the time, but our message never will. We are JESUS people.

My heart is to build a church that keeps the main thing the main thing. We will focus on Jesus, preach Jesus, and do whatever we have to in order to reach people for Jesus.

We value this, because we are UNITED IN JESUS. With Jesus at the center, we cannot lose. We are believing that God is bringing a group of people together at My City Church who will love Jesus and His mission with all their heart. We are a church that is UNITED IN JESUS!!

The Best is Yet to Come!
