A Season Of Separation

By:

We all get to experience this great thing called life.

Many days we feel great, but there are also days we feel sad or defeated. We go through ups and downs, and that’s okay. There is nothing wrong with you if you are facing hardships. Sometimes we are the reason some of those hardships are created, but we are human and we will make mistakes. The thing is to not let those mistakes consume you and cause you to remain in a cycle of shame.

Sometimes God places hardships in our lives because He is preparing us for something greater to come. See it this way: you’re in school and you’re studying for an exam and it’s hard to memorize the material you need to memorize. With constant studying, you will soon understand the material and do well on the exam. These hardships that God sends are preparing us for the exam that He is going to give us. These hardships are just little quizzes.

We all go through different seasons at different times in our lives

and God uses these seasons to prepare us and form us into who we are called to be. Each season we must leave leveled up from where we were in the beginning.

Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad — for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. 1 Peter 4:12-13 NLT

God uses seasons as a means to help us clean up anything that needs to be cleaned up in our lives.

This could be old habits, people, relationships, jobs, marriages, etc. It’s up to us if we choose to clean up our mess or remain in it. A key season that God uses to allow us to clean up our messes is a season of separation.

Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything visible. Ephesians 5:10-14 NLT
During this season of separation, it will most likely feel like you have no one to turn to when you are needing someone or something.

During these moments we have to press into our relationship with God. If all we are seeking is comfort from humans and not God, we will not find it. Humans will always disappoint us, but our Father will not disappoint. If He does disappoint, it's often because we've created our own expectations. But He has something better in store for us, so hold onto that. There is a purpose behind it.

It’s important to be in community and reach out to them when you are feeling sad, but are you seeking them first or God?

Are you seeking a resource or THE source? God is the only one who can truly bring us complete joy and peace, especially during a season of separation. There will be many times when you feel like giving up and many times when you will need to allow yourself to feel your emotions, and that’s okay. Let it all out to God. God wants you to only want to seek Him during those moments.

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you. Psalm 9:10 NLT

We have many stories in the Bible of people that were isolated and soon find out that the only company they truly needed was God. The greatest one is the story of our Lord, Jesus. He spent 40 days and nights isolated being tempted by Satan. We can see these stories and how they end, always looking to the Father for comfort and help.

Just because God is taking you through this season, doesn’t mean he is against you or doesn’t want you to have anybody in your life. Maybe there were conversations between your past friends or relationships that you didn’t hear that He is trying to save you from. God always works in our favor. We might not see it at the moment but He is indeed trying to help us. He causes all things to work for good for those who love Him. So, during a season of separation, if you feel  lonely, battle negative thoughts or lies from the enemy that come pouring in with God's truth. Remember that God loves you. He left the 99 for you. He chose you, and loves you more than you could ever imagine.
