God is our perfect Father.
And He was moving mightily through the hearts of every woman who attended City Girl Night.
City Girl Night was more than just amazing vendors and beautiful charcuterie boards.
We were blessed with a powerful time of worship and got to hear a beautiful message from our lead pastor, Pastor Kelly Nelson. She spoke about how Jesus knew who He was, and how He was firm in this.
"When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” Luke 3:21-22 (NIV)
At this point, Jesus had not yet started His ministry.
He hadn't healed the sick, given sight to the blind, set any captive free or fed 5000 miraculously. Yet, God the Father was "well pleased" with Him. And because of these words that had been spoken over Him, Jesus was able to stand strong in His identity as He lived out His human life here on earth.
Today, the world self-identifies because it has turned its back on its Creator.
But the Kingdom of God is the opposite of the world. And as women of God, we are called to also find our identifies in Christ. We are called to live as He did, and to approach God like He is our Father. Where our earthly fathers may have fallen short, our Heavenly Father "leads us to truth without condemnation."
Near the end of His time here on earth, Jesus cried out to God the Father saying "Abba, Father" (Mark 14:36). By saying "Abba," He was approaching the throne as a young child. This is how God wishes for us to approach Him as well. He wants to be the loving, nurturing, affirming Father that we may have never had.
After this moving message, we had baptisms! Twelve women took that next step and made a public declaration of their love for Jesus and all He's done in their lives!
