He is Lord of all
“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.” I will proclaim the Lord’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father. Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.” Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling. Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him”. Psalm 2:1-12 (NIV)
Jesus is the "King of Kings and Lord of Lords."
We’ve likely all heard this title for Jesus before, perhaps a million times. But, have you ever stopped to actually consider the implications? Think about it for a second. Actually, think about it. Like the Psalmists commonly tell us, take a “Selah” moment.
What came to mind? One of the first things that comes to mind for me is that we hardly pray, think, live, or act in such a way that actually lines up with the fact that He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Every king, every ruler, every president, every dictator, every governor, every mayor, every single governmental ruler you could think of is subject to the ultimate King of Kings. Brothers and sisters, that’s good news! Want more? The same goes for every authority - masters, coaches, teachers, bosses, parents, managers, owners, landlords, and every form of authority or power you can think of is also subject to Him. When you combine King of Kings and Lord of Lords, that is all encompassing! Either scripture is true, or it’s not! There is not one single rule, power, authority, or dominion that falls outside of the jurisdiction of the Lord Jesus Christ!
It is ALL subjugated to Him! Brothers and sisters, that’s good news!
Notice what the end of Psalm 2 says: “I will make the nations your inheritance.” Jesus said in Matthew 28:18 that “ALL authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” Notice what He said immediately following that emphatic statement: “Therefore, GO and make disciples of all nations.” The resurrected Lord conquered death, hell, and the grave. In so doing, He received all authority, including the nations. We know He is currently at the right hand of the Father as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It is OUR job to fulfill the Great Commission of realizing all nations being discipled and becoming His inheritance. Our fulfilling of the Great Commission is the culmination of giving Jesus what is rightly His and what has already been given to Him.
Lord Jesus, we pray that you would forgive us. Forgive us from our getting distracted from what our mission from you on earth is. As a part of that forgiveness, would you empower us once again with your Holy Spirit? Embolden us to live with courage as we take back what has already been granted to you, namely, the nations. We pray truly that Your Kingdom would come; that Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. We pray that our local government officials would “Kiss the Son” in ruling justly. We pray the same for any authorities we find ourselves under. We also pray that they would take refuge in You, Lord, for those who do are blessed. We pray all these things in the name of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, for Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever. Amen.
