Day 16: Groups

Riley & Kasie

True Godly community starts with devotion to God's word, prayer, and gathering with fellow believers.

When we look at the early church in the book of Acts, we see that they met daily, cared for each other daily, won souls daily, searched the Scriptures daily, and increased in number daily. Their relationships with each other flourished because they prioritized their relationship with God in a REAL way, on a daily basis. Out of their abundant relationship with God, they were able to love each other deeply.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47 (NIV)

What a beautiful example of what the church should look like; meeting on a weekly basis for teaching and fellowship, but also in relationship with each other and the Lord all throughout the week. The early church truly loved being together and sharing with each other generously. Out of the abundance of their filling of the Holy Spirit, they were able to give freely of their time and resources. They didn't just go to church together - they enjoyed doing life together.

Community wasn't an obligation or an option to them. It was a necessity.

As we look at the future of Groups at My City Church with excitement for this new year, we have the opportunity to pause and pray for God’s direction, favor, and clarity.

We want to be real people, living our real lives, having real talks with God and each other.

So, as we lean into what God has for us through Groups this year, let’s pray that he would establish these same rhythms for our church.

Father, we thank you so much for using us. We are so honored to be a part of your journey. We are blessed to have the opportunity to partner with you in building your church. Lord, thank you for sending us. Thank you for sending us all over the world and specifically into the city of Omaha to invite people into your Kingdom. God, we ask, boldly, that you would break down walls in people’s hearts this year. We ask that you show us how to be real with each other as we learn how to be real with you. Father, mold us into the church that you see. Mold us into a people group that honors you above all else and builds our community on your unshakable ground. It is our greatest privilege to do your work here in this world. May you receive all the glory, forever. Amen.
