Day 16: My City Leadership

Our pastors are a gift from God.

“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-13 (NIV)

They have been chosen to lead us, to teach us, and to equip us for good works.

They didn’t have to accept this high calling, but they chose to take the mantle and to lead a life of service to God and to His people. It is one of the most difficult jobs humans could ever do because it’s not just about leading an organization, it’s about leading God’s people to become mature in the faith by fostering unity with each other and growing in knowledge and understanding of Jesus and who we are in Him.

How are you praying for your pastors?

Although our relationship with Jesus is personal, our pastors hold a high responsibility to cultivate a healthy, mature church so King Jesus will be ready to take us home, His bride (John 3:28-29). With all of the transitions and changes we have faced in the last couple of years, our leaders and pastors have remained faithful and steadfast in their hope and trust in God. Even when we may not always agree with our leaders, we can honor them and care for them by praying for them continually (1 Timothy 2). Let’s be the kind of people who are a joy to shepherd so our pastors and leaders can lead us in the ways of the Lord with strength, wisdom, vision, hope, and perseverance. Let’s pray:

Lord, thank you for our pastors. Thank you for their sacrifice to lead this church and to lead your people into all righteousness. I pray that you would protect them. Protect their hearts, their minds, their bodies, and their families. May they never fall into temptation, but instead draw closer to you in their moment of need. Give them supernatural strength, wisdom, and discernment to lead your people. Give them Your vision for this House, their families, and their own futures. Stir up faith and renew passion once again in them so they will persevere and finish strong. May they never forget the joy of their salvation and the hope set before them - you, Jesus. You are why we are here, and you are why we do everything we do. Give them holy rest and peace of mind in the midst of the chaos of this world. May they always lean on you and not on their own strengths or talent. We pray blessings over our pastors in Jesus’ name, Amen.
