Day 16: Our City

By:
Josh
Andrew

On Day 16, we get a unique opportunity to pause and pray for our city.

For here is the way God loved the world—he gave his only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life.” John 3:16

A couple of key highlights that we can pull from this scripture is He SO loved the world, there is a reason behind every word in the bible - God doesn't just love the world, He SO loves the world. God doesn’t just love Omaha, He SO loves Omaha. And the last thing I want to note about this Scripture verse is that “everyone who believes in him, will never perish but experience everlasting life. God cares about our city, and God cares about the “whomsoever.”

What I love about this Scripture is it exemplifies God's true heart, and passion for His people, including Omaha.

God loves Elkhorn, God loves North Omaha, God loves Council Bluffs. He loves our city so much - that He gave His one and only Son, and while we were still sinners, Jesus - died for us.

That while we were still lost, and hurting, God was thinking about us, and wanting to have a relationship with us.” Romans 5:8

As we pray, let's pray for two things -

  1. Thanking God for His love, and sending His son for us.
  2. Praying for our city, to experience the love, and hope of Jesus through us.

God we thank you so much for sending your Son to this Earth, to take our place, to replace our sin, our shame, our hurts, our hang-ups, because you wanted a relationship with us that bad. We thank you Jesus for paying the ultimate price, for dying on a cross, and rising on the third day, to prove your true compassion and love for your people. We acknowledge you are a good God - who loves us, and wants to be with us.

And we pray for our city, Omaha, Nebraska, that you would use us in our everyday lives to be the hands and feet of your son, Jesus. Give us a heart for your city, a burden for your people, that we would look at the homeless person downtown, and see them as a son or daughter, that we would look at people driving on Dodge as people you died for, and continue to give us opportunities to love your people, and serve your people.

Amen.
