Marriage was God’s plan for man and woman from the beginning of time.
In Genesis God told Adam it was not good for him to be alone, so he made a woman to be man's helper. But, that wasn’t the full extent to Adam and Eves relationship. God had more planned for them.
Not only are we physical beings, but we are spiritual and emotional beings as well!
God didn’t forget that while designing the most powerful relationship we could have. So what is the main ingredient to a successful and sustaining marriage?
Love. And not just the gooey, cheesy kind of love (while that is still good to keep fun and spontaneity alive), but the kind of love that takes a choice. The kind of love Jesus shows us each day. We are to love our spouse as Christ loves us.
I want to encourage those of you who are married.
When we partner with God we don’t have to love our spouse out of our own strength. We don’t have to try to love them with empty cups because God is our ultimate source. He will refill and replenish anything that is missing for us to love our spouse with intentionality! To love is to serve. To love is to put our spouse before ourselves! Yes, I know, this one is hard but the fruit of servant hood is even better!
To those of you who are not married or are entering into marriage.
My encouragement to you is to get low and learn a spirit of servanthood. This will take your future relationships and marriage to levels being selfish can’t get you to!
And secondly, be disciplined in connecting with our source, God! We learn to love our spouse better by allowing God to love us first. And a future spouse will never be able to fill what was meant for God to fill. Even though our spouses are incredible and they can love us well, the ultimate fulfilling love we need comes from our Heavenly Father!
Marriage is beautiful, fun, intimate, joyful, hard, and so worth it! When you and your spouse partner with God, and prioritize your personal relationship with him you will have a marriage filled with love! It won’t always be easy, but it will always be worth it!
“Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8
God we thank you for the beautiful gift of marriage and that you designed this to be such a fulfilling relationship. We know that with you a strand of 3 cannot be easily broken! We pray for your love that heals and restores to flow through every marriage. We pray for intimate moments with you as well as between husbands and wives this week that bind marriages closer together. We declare a spirit of unity in marriages that unites households and families! We pray for healing and restoration and that those who feel like there isn’t a way to see you moving in their lives this week! We thank you for marriage and that we don’t have to do it alone! We thank you for all of the blessing, favor, protection, and joy you have so graciously given us! We love you! Amen!
