It's time to go deeper
“The man brought me back to the entrance to the temple, and I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, south of the altar. 2 He then brought me out through the north gate and led me around the outside to the outer gate facing east, and the water was trickling from the south side.”
12 “Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.” Ezekiel 47:1-2, 12 (NIV)
The presence of God is often referred to as “living water"
In this passage, we see this living water flowing from the temple to wherever it pleases. The angel takes Ezekiel deeper into the current of the water to where his feet could no longer touch. Everywhere this river flows, it carries those in it to where there needs to be life distributed. Everywhere it goes, it brings life.
Will you be obedient? Will you step into the current?
What I see from this passage is that we have many Christians who are hungry for a move of God, but not obedient to get into the river. We maybe step a foot in, or let it get to our waist, but we do not let the current carry us. This year, I want us to be a church that goes INTO THE CURRENT. Meaning we are obedient to whatever the Holy Spirit desires from us. If it's praying for that coworker, giving financially above and beyond, praying in your school, or sharing the message of Jesus with a friend. We want to go into the current this year, and watch it bring life to the city around us. No longer will we stand on the shore watching the river, but we are going to let it carry us to where God wants us to be. INTO THE CURRENT means God is going to bring life not only to you, but also to the people around you. Lets pray:
Heavenly Father, help us to be obedient to you. Whatever you ask of us, no matter how ridiculous it may seem, help us to be obedient. For those that have stayed on the shoreline, help us to get into the river, to trust you to take us wherever you need us. May we be full of living water to give a world that is desperately thirsty. Help us to be obedient. And as we continue into 2023, may you do so many extraordinary things through your people that we cannot help but give thanks and praise to you. We love you LORD. And we trust you. So into the current, we will go. Amen.
