Day 5: United States Government

In America, we have an opportunity and a blessing that no other nation has.

We have the right and the privilege to vote for our nation's leadership! It’s our responsibility as Christians to elect and support like-minded leaders that love the gospel and fear the Lord. More importantly, we must pray for the leaders of this nation.

"In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before, so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.” I was very much afraid, but I said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?” The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.” Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, “How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?” It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time." Nehemiah 2:1-6 (NIV)

In this story, Nehemiah comes to the King of Persia and asks for his blessing and favor to go rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. At this time, King Artaxerxes was not a follower of God, BUT he feared God and respected his cupbearer, Nehemiah, and granted him access for God's will to be done.

WE PRAY FOR GOD FEARING LEADERSHIP.

“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:1-4‬ ‭(NLT)‬‬

Today as we pray, pray for a government that fears the Lord.

The Lord uses people for His will whether they believe in Him or not - just like He used King Artaxerxes for the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. Pray for our government leaders - that they would come to know the Lord.

God, I thank you for your love for us. You are a good God, perfect in all your ways. I thank you that we live in a nation that doesn’t murder us for our faith in you, but allows us to worship your name. When things don’t make sense for us, they make sense to you. Lord, we pray for the leadership of this nation, the United States of America. Lord, I pray our senators would pass Godly laws. I pray for our Supreme Court justices that they would use Godly judgment when in court, for all judgment is yours and yours alone. Lord, most importantly, I pray for our President, Joe Biden, and his cabinet. I pray that they would carry a healthy fear of the Lord and rule the Lord’s land with a Godly authority. Lord, I pray for the church - that in moments when our voice and our ability to worship is threatened and attempted silenced, we the people would have the courage to stand up for the Word of God. For we know “Those who want to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” (Matthew‬ ‭16:25‬.) God, I thank you for the United States of America. A country that has spread the gospel of Jesus more than any country in history. I pray America would prosper. I pray for heavenly unity for America. Nothing scares the devil more than unity. Amen.
