You control your heart.
Last week we learned that there is only one thing we can control in our relationships: ourselves. But how do we do that? It starts with our heart. When you set your heart, you have to check your heart. You have to continually check your heart and reset your heart.
You do not have to accept what you feel.
“Keep your heart vigilant, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.” Proverbs 4:23-25
This means you should be consistently checking in with your feelings- asking yourself “Why is it that I feel this way?” Bringing it to the Lord and getting to the root is the only way to process through those feelings so that we do not make life-altering decisions based on temporary emotions.
Feelings are real but they are not reliable. Your feelings can deceive you.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” Jeremiah 17:9
So how do we set our hearts? First, you have to hate the condition of double-mindedness. Double-mindedness is when word and belief do not not line up with action.
A healthy relationship start with a healthy you. And a healthy you starts with a healthy heart.
So stay mindful. Set your heart by the Word of God, and guard your heart by trusting God.
