"Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’" "You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it." Genesis 3:1-6 (NIV)
Today we read from Genesis 3, when the enemy tempts Eve with the forbidden fruit. Even though God blessed Adam and Eve with an entire garden of good fruit, Eve got fixated on the one thing that God withheld from them. It's important to be able to distinguish the right purpose and the wrong purpose. There is actually a "good" that will lead you away from God because "good" is subjective to your worldview. Eve was tempted by the good side of the tree, not evil.
Just because it's good doesn't mean it's God.
We’ve all had times in our life when we wish we could hear a clear audible voice from God, telling us what to do. “Take that job.” “Move to that state.” “Marry that person.” But it doesn’t take long to figure out that that is not really how God operates. It is more likely that God’s will for your life is right in front of you, but you are so preoccupied with what is next that you miss the answer right in front of your face.
"Settle it in your heart that there is nothing good outside of God." ~ Pastor Eli Nelson
God’s purpose in your life is not about you. It’s about His kingdom and the part you play in His story.
What God has called you to do is not about you. It's about fulfilling His purpose on the earth. Don't be distracted by who you want to be when God has called you to be who He created you to be. Ambition is good. But left untamed, not in the right order, it will give the illusion of fulfillment. We will end up sacrificing our God-calling for a "good" calling.
God is not holding out on you
"Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 (NKJV)
If we are perpetually unsatisfied with what we have and where we are, we refuse to see the significance of what God has already given us. What has God given you that you have begun to take for granted? You have something you're building to, not just living through. We cannot be led by our feelings. We have to be led by our disciplines. What God has entrusted you with at this moment is significant. The grass isn't greener on the other side...
The grass is greener where you water it
