Hot Ones: There is More

What are the gifts of the Spirit for?

On this episode of Hot Ones, Ps. Eli brought in a fire word on the hot-button topic: the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Although the gifts are evident and woven throughout the Bible, the Church has a ranging views and beliefs when it comes to them.

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good." 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (ESV)

The Word of God says that the gifts of the Spirit are "for the common good." They reflect God's nature and who He is. Gifts are to build up the church, not just for yourself. When you don't use your gifts for the body of Christ, you are inhibiting the blessings of God on you and the Church.

What does the Bible say about the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

“… to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.” 1 Corinthians 12:10-11 (ESV)

There are many spiritual gifts mentioned in the Bible. Ps. Eli touched on some of the many that appear throughout Jesus’ and the apostles’ ministry:

  • Utterance of Wisdom
  • Utterance of Knowledge
  • Faith
  • Healing
  • Working of Miracles
  • Prophecy
  • Discerning of spirits
  • Tongues and interpretation of tongues
"Gifts are not merely a human activity, but a divine activity done through humans who trust in Christ." ~ Pastor Eli Nelson

Even though you know God could heal you, do you believe He would heal you?

The gift of healing is not about having "enough faith" to be healed. We are called to die on this side of faith. No matter what, we can still believe in faith and pray for God's will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. It may not come in this life, but God will answer our prayers. His ways are not our ways. But we can trust that His ways are always good. God can work through you to distribute healing. Don't be afraid to pray for someone to receive healing.

A mustard seed is all you need.
