Your tomorrow is the product of your disciplines today.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
We are in the second week of our sermon series titled “If My People”. Last week, we talked about how we have an invitation to initiate and how we can maximize our God-given potential through taking initiative in life.
This week, Pastor Eli talked to us in a sermon titled “When Belief Isn’t Enough”.
We have a choice everyday to either live for today or live for tomorrow. When we live for today, we aren’t setting ourselves up for success for tomorrow, but when we live for tomorrow, we lose out in living for today.
“The fulfillment of our potential in Christ stands at the crossroads of today and tomorrow” – Pastor Eli Nelson
We will compromise our calling by seeking something that never satisfies either today or tomorrow. When we seek convenience, we sacrifice our purpose. Pastor Eli mentioned that we must have self-control to endure a process, which leads to our full-potential. Some things that stand in our way of self-discipline include being led by our feelings, living with inconsistent patterns, having unreliable motivations, and wanting instant gratification.
We can find ourselves getting caught up in these excuses and habits that stand in the way of having self-control. The good news is that we can take courage in knowing that we don’t have to be perfect, we just have to make progress. You got the the gym today? Awesome, you made progress to a purpose of being healthy. You went to couples therapy with your spouse? Amazing, you are one step closer to having a Christ-like marriage.
