What does it mean to be better?
Pastor Eli kicked off My City Church’s new series, New Year, Who 'Dis? with a powerful word surrounding Simon Peter and the modern church!
“He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, 'Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.' Simon answered, 'Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.' When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break." Luke 5:3-6 (NIV)
Pastor Eli spoke on many things about this new year of 2022, and he gave some really interesting statistics:
- 44% of people are trying to better their health
- 26% of people are trying to better relationship goals
- 29% of people are trying to better their finances
- 29% of people are trying to better their relationship with God.
So what does it mean to be better? It means we do things differently.
God told them to cast their nets deeper; differently than they had done before. We can be fishing for something but not catch anything. God might need us to go deeper and give things up along the way not because they are bad, but because He needs you to follow a different purpose - His perfect purpose for your life. Nothing is wasted with God. In 2021, many of us felt the harsh reality of a broken world. We lost a lot of things. But even in a year where loss was prevalent, nothing was unused by God.
"Transformation comes when the decision is made to continue after the motivation ceases." ~ Pastor Eli Nelson
This year is a new year, and there is a new life in our church that is growing and building. It’s not the Liberty First Arena, The Post, or Online. My City Church doesn’t limit itself to the walls of a building. It’s the people.
My City Church exists to lift up Jesus in our city by loving people and empowering leaders in every sphere of life.
And in this new year of 2022, that is exactly what we are going to do. So if something from your past comes knocking on your door again, we say,
“New Year, Who 'Dis?"
