It’s time for Spring Cleaning!
No one likes it, but it must be done. Or maybe you are one of those people who actually does enjoy deep cleaning your house and organizing everything you can think of like you’re Marie Kondo. Wherever you fall on this spectrum, today’s blog will provide you with some practical tips on how to clean and organize your home this season!
1. When life gives you lemons, CLEAN EVERYTHING
As I was doing some research on spring cleaning tips, I was amazed at how many ways lemons can be used for cleaning! You can use them for freshening up your microwave and garbage disposal, getting stains out of linens and clothes, polishing metal, shining bathroom fixtures, killing weeds, and more! Check out this article for details!

2. Baking Soda = Miracle Worker
Here is another household item that can be used in SO MANY WAYS – especially for cleaning! I’ve personally used baking soda to get stains out of my charcuterie board as well as some pots and pans. Other ways you can use baking soda include unclogging drains, cleaning stovetops, shining up tarnished silverware, deodorizing washer, cleaning toilets, removing carpet stains, etc! Read this article for specifics on how to go about cleaning these various items!
3. White Vinegar: Smelly, but works wonders
Whenever I come home to visit my parents, I can always tell when my mom just cleaned the bathroom because it definitely smelled like white vinegar! But if you’re ballin’ on a budget, this cheap product can be used to clean almost anything: glass shower doors, countertops, faucets, showers, toilets, appliances, and others. This article has more details if you want to learn more!

4. Sorting Clothes
Although I don’t have the biggest closet, it does help me not overspend on clothes I won’t wear that often! I usually sort my clothes by color and somewhat by season (I say “somewhat” because we know how these Nebraska seasons really be). I also bought a hanging shoe organizer for my closet since I don’t have a ton of shoe space on the floor. If you have a lot of scarves, this scarf hanger is also very handy! One of the best ways I keep my closet from overflowing is I donate any clothes that I could have worn, but I didn’t during the season that just ended. Don’t fool yourself – you know you won’t miss it if you went six months without wearing it.
5. Little by Little
The biggest cleaning tip I have in general is to clean a little bit everyday. Don’t let it get to the point of mass chaos and then you feel too overwhelmed to even do anything. The main area I clean up everyday is the kitchen. If you have dirty dishes in the sink, don’t let them sit in there for more than two days. As much as I hate hand-washing dishes, I feel much more at peace when my home is clean and tidy. Your home should be a place of refuge and comfort, but it is also a place for you to steward and take care of every day.
Clutter can negatively affect our anxiety levels, sleep, physical health, relationships, and ability to focus. It can also make us less productive and feel more stressed. There is so much research behind this topic that I find it fascinating! I encourage you to read more about it so you can truly understand why cleaning and organizing are so important to your overall health.
The best way to make cleaning a habit in your life is to make it a fun family activity! Kids love to be helpful. They want you to empower them to make a difference – even if it is as small as picking up sticks in the backyard. No matter what your situation is, the point is to find a system that works for you so you and your family can fully enjoy the experience of being HOME.
