As I was sitting down to write tonight, I asked Jesus, what do you want me to write about?
And He said: “I want you to write about Me. People tend to care more about how what I do applies to their life instead of how what I do reflects who I AM.”
Well okay then! God really knows how to sucker punch you in the stomach doesn’t He?! Of course He cares about our lives and all of the small details within them, but is it not all for His glory? When God performs a miracle, it's so easy to rejoice for what He's done for us rather than who He is and why He's done it.
As I reflect on the Gospels, here are some observations on the miracles Jesus performed and how those miracles show His character.
Because how we view Jesus directly affects how He can operate in our lives. He wants us to know Him for who He really is! As someone who has been a Christian for 20+ years of my life, I need to remind myself of my first love – why I fell in love with Jesus in the first place. So, I hope this does that for you, too.
Jesus turns water into wine (John 2:1-11)
Jesus cares about us. Even the things we don’t think matter that much to Him. He will lift up the humble and bring honor where there is shame. (Proverbs 22:4)
Jesus heals the royal official’s dying son (John 4:46-47)
Jesus is compassionate towards us. Our honest, vulnerable, and desperate prayers move His heart.
Jesus provides fish for Simon Peter (Luke 5:1-11)
Jesus always gives more than enough. He doesn’t just do “good enough.” He is more than enough, so He can’t help but give abundantly!
Jesus casts out an unclean spirit (Mark 1:23-28)
Jesus is the Lord God Almighty. No one and nothing can stand against Him! Demons cower in fear at the very mention of His name. What an awesome God we serve!
I could go on and on, but I think you guys get where I’m going with this. I encourage you all as you are reading the Bible this week – take time to meditate on how Scripture reveals who God is. And enjoy learning more and falling more in love with the One who loved you first.
