“You’re not good enough.”
“No one wants to listen to what you have to say.”
“It’s not going to work out, so you should just give up.”
I know you’ve heard this same voice, this voice that only lies. This voice that disguises lies as truth. They’re intentional lies— lies with a purpose to tear you down and apart from what God says about you, that you know in your heart just aren’t true.
More often, these lies seem to come in your weakest moments. Why? It’s in these moments that it’s easier for you to believe what you know deep down is not true about yourself. That’s intentional. But it’s also predictable. Satan seems sneaky, but if you take a step back, you realize he’s not so sneaky after all.
The lies come in the same format, always leaving you feeling down, discouraged and demotivated. A lie can leave you at a crossroads of giving up or pushing through, with more inclination towards giving up. If you take a closer look, you’ll notice that the devil comes to steal and kill whatever God has recently spoken over you. When God speaks something over your life, the enemy will do anything to stop you from moving forward.
I know this may sound dark or discouraging, but hear me out. When we allow the enemy to have a voice in our lives—a voice that has the power to influence our decisions and next steps—we give him power.
BUT HEAR THIS: THE DEVIL’S VOICE HAS NO POWER IN YOUR LIFE. WE DON’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO OR ENTERTAIN THE LIES.
“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
While we can’t stop the lies from surfacing, we can be prepared. We can be equipped and confident, rooted and founded in truth. We can know our authority as Christians and we can rest in the beautiful truth that tells us that when we are weak, we are strong. Yes, you may feel weak, but with Jesus, you are stronger than you could ever be on your own. And with Jesus, you will overcome whatever you’re facing, no matter how heavy, thick or awful it feels. The darkness of the lies stands no chance against the light of Jesus.
“For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
2 Corinthians 12:10
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
Can it truly be that when we feel our weakest, we are actually our strongest? Yes, but it takes a surrender; a simple surrender that may not feel so simple at times. It takes acknowledging our dependence on God. It takes moving into action when we feel paralyzed. It takes an understanding that our strength is not our own. Truly, this is something to celebrate. His power is made perfect in our weakness.
HOW BLESSED ARE WE TO HAVE ACCESS TO SUCH HOLY POWER?
So here are a few scriptures for your back pocket that you can pull out and use as your weapons in the moments where you know the strength can’t come from yourself; in the moments where you know the strength has to come from a Place far greater. It says in scripture that we are to put on the full armor of God. By having verses prepared, we are participating in putting on that armor.
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” (Read all Eph. 6:11-20) Ephesians 6:11
“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10
DON’T BE HELD BACK OR DISCOURAGED BY YOUR WEAKNESSES. IN OUR WEAKNESS, WE RECEIVE CHRIST’S STRENGTH, AND THAT’S SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE. WE DON’T HAVE TO RELY ON OUR OWN STRENGTH ANYMORE; WE ARE NEVER ALONE!
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10
THE THIEF STEALS LIFE WHILE JESUS GIVES LIFE.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
YOU ARE A NEW CREATION! YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO BE DISCOURAGED OR SET BACK BY WHO YOU ONCE WERE. IN CHRIST, YOU ARE NEW AND FREE FROM YOUR PAST.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
BECAUSE HE IS WITH US, WE DO NOT NEED TO FEAR. HE IS THERE TO STRENGTHEN AND HELP US. WE CAN TRUST HIM.
“The Lord is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.” Exodus 15:2
WITH THE LORD BEING OUR STRENGTH AND OUR SONG, WE PRAISE HIM BEFORE THE BREAKTHROUGH, KNOWING THE BREAKTHROUGH IS ON ITS WAY.
These are just a handful of verses and examples of what can go in your back pocket. I promise that if you take the time to search, the Holy Spirit will guide you to the truths you need. So the next time you find yourself starting to believe that lie, I pray you hear the still sweet voice of the Holy Spirit that reminds you of the power you have access to. I pray that the voice of Jesus overpowers, calms and silences the lie that was once screaming so loud. And after the silence, I pray you never forget the power that’s within you when the enemy tries to disguise himself as truth.
