'Tis the Season for Date Nights

Winter Weekend Fun!

Of course, date nights are not limited to just the holidays, but with the change in seasons and upcoming holidays, there are some exciting and festive ideas to change up your date nights – whether it be with your significant other, a group, or with your closest friends.

Candle-Making

A few months ago, I went to Dundee Candle Co. and made my own candles. It was an absolute blast! They had over 80 scents to choose from to mix together and curate the perfect scent. This is a creative and fun date night idea if you're wanting to switch it up!

Seeing Christmas Lights

One of my favorite traditions is seeing Christmas Lights around the Omaha Area. Before heading out, stop by your local coffeeshop or make a holiday drink at home to take with you while you sight-see. Here is a list of some places to check out some beautiful lights:

  • Omaha’s Holiday Lights Festival Lighting Displays
  • North Omaha (6 blocks around 24th and Lake St.)
  • South Omaha (24th St. between L and Q)
  • Old Market
  • Gene Leahy Mall
  • Midtown Crossing
  • Aksarben
  • Santa’s Rockin’ Lights (Werner Park) – 1 mile of lights to drive through! (prices vary from $25-35 per car)
  • Omaha Neighborhoods
  • The Sanctuary (off 228th and Center)
  • Linden Estates (off 144th and Dodge)
  • Dundee Neighborhoods (around Happy Hollow Boulevard)

Trivia & Game Nights

Edge of the Universe (60th and Maple) – On Tuesdays, this themed cafe has trivia nights, and they have music bingo on Wednesdays. Some trivia nights are themed, so check out their website for more information. Also, on Fridays they have movie nights! On December 23rd they are showing Elf (and having a cookie night!), and on December 30th they are showing RENT!

Spielbound Board Game Cafe (32nd and Harney – near Midtown Crossing) – Spielbound has a library’s worth of board and card games to browse through, so give yourself time to explore. They also sell coffee and non-coffee beverages as well as food. Two of my favorite drinks there are the Chai Latte and Apples to Apples (apple cider with butterscotch and whipped cream).

Coffee Shops & Bakeries:

During the Christmas season, it the perfect time visit a cozy coffeeshop and a warm, bakery with all of the best smells!

Stories Coffee Company (new locations in Gretna and Midtown Crossing) – Stories is a great location for evenings of acoustic music, open mics, and worship songs. Stay tuned on their Facebook for specific events and times.

The Grind Coffeehouse – This brand new coffee shop is a mix of modern and cozy. Definitely worth checking out!

Fariner Bakery – Take a little day trip to Ashland for the small town vibes, listen to Christmas music on the way, and get yourself some tasty baked goodies.

Zen Coffee Company – They have a new drive-thru by Trader Joes. Pick up some seasonal goodies at TJ’s and treat you and significant other to Zen’s!
