United We Stand

You have a part to play.

Today we started a new collection of talks titled: "Church, It's a Group Project." In this first message of the series, Pastor Eli Nelson shared what being united as a church means and why it is so important. One of the main reasons is that Jesus himself prayed for unity:

"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." John 17:20-23 (NIV)

We are here to make Jesus known.

"The devil is not afraid of a large church. He's afraid of a united church." ~ Pastor Eli Nelson

We are all called to come together and be a part of the body of Christ. What is your part? A healthy body requires for each part of the body to play its part. It's not because you're needed or because you are doing someone a favor. It's all about glorifying Jesus Christ.

"How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!" Psalm 133:1 (NIV)

One of our core values at My City Church is United in Jesus: "We are united under no other name, but the name of Jesus. More than any method or personal preference, we are focused on Jesus and His message and the great commission."

A church that is distracted is divided. And a church divided cannot fulfill God's mission.

So how do we stay united? Simple. We keep Jesus at the center. We keep our eyes fixed on Him, and we stay obedient to what He has asked us to do.

United we stand.
