Have you ever tried to climb a mountain?
Take Mount Everest for example.
It takes 6-10 weeks and a lot of training to even have a chance to make it to the top. Not to mention all of the equipment that you need: a tent, clothing, provisions, oxygen tank, etc. There is no way that someone like me or you could decide tomorrow to climb Mount Everest and be successful. So why do we think that as soon as we get out of a valley in our life, that it will be easy to get up the mountain to what God has promised us?
James 1:2-4 says this:
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
That perseverance and testing of your faith that this verse talks about, is the training that you need to get up the mountain.
It also doesn’t say “if you face trials”, but “when you face trials”. Trials in life are inevitable, because they make you prepared for what comes next in your life. If you don’t face trials, you won’t be successful in what God has for you, because you won’t be trained in your faith and perseverance.
It is also okay if it takes time to climb that mountain.
Remember Mount Everest? The average is 9 weeks. The higher the mountain, the longer it is going to take to get to the top. So is the journey to get to where God has called us to be. Don’t be discouraged about the time it is taking for God to prepare you for the mountaintop. The longer you wait, the more time God has to train you by the testing of your faith. That just means that the mountaintop is higher and better than you could have ever dreamed.
So what is the journey up the mountain that God has put you on in this season of life?
Singleness? Financial Freedom? Mental Health? Infertility? Whatever mountain you are climbing, remember that God has a purpose for the pain, a plan for the trial, and a promise for the future. Don’t give up. Don’t stop climbing. God is with you. Forever and Always.
