Have you noticed how our lives sometime seem to become more difficult right before something amazing happens?
It’s so easy to become discouraged, angry, triggered– you name it– by the present circumstances. And I certainly don’t know all of the secrets of the universe, but I am an incredible observer. I like to look at patterns– the ins and outs, the constants, the ups and downs. It feels like solving a mystery. And in these moments, when you’re on the brink of something wonderful, when you’re about to walk into a promise of God, that’s when the storm seems to hit like a tornado sweeping through a tiny town. It’s almost like it’s the enemy’s last ditch effort to take you out before your Savior comes to sweep you off into the Promised Land, the one flowing with milk and honey.
And that’s the beauty of Jesus.
His promises stand strong like a house built upon solid rock. The enemy can huff and puff and try to take your house down, but he couldn’t blow hard enough if he had an army of 3000 on his side. A few weeks ago, I was reading my bible and God reminded me of the prophet Elijah, who taunted the 450 prophets of Baal. I laughed with Him for a moment about it, and then that still, small voice spoke so clearly to my heart: "That is the kind of bold confidence you can have in Me." So, the enemy can throw his temper tantrum, but God has already taken the victory, and there’s nothing that can be done to take it away.
Now, don’t hear what I’m not saying.
The enemy is not the only one who gets us into trouble. God takes us through trials to grow us, and then there are us humans, who get ourselves into our own messes. We cannot blame the enemy for everything that happens in our lives, but I believe that there’s a distinguishing difference between these and warfare. However, this I know to be true: What the enemy means for evil, God always turns for good.
The bible says:
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 13:66
When Jesus is saying that He has overcome the world, He’s declaring victory over the evil one, over the one who hates humanity and God’s children especially. But the beauty of Jesus is that He has given us full authority over every evil. So, through these storms, right before we step into all that Jesus has for us, we have to fight! If the enemy wants a battle, that’s what He’ll get, and by using the Sword that we’ve been equipped with (which is the Word of God), he will lose every time.
Don’t listen to the storm– silence it. Whether it’s critical thoughts running through your mind or unforeseen expenses, the victory is still yours because you have the God of Heaven’s armies on your side. You have a God that fights for you and will not let you fall, so turn off your logical thinking and turn on your faith. Thank God for what He's done, doing and has yet to do. Fight the war by praising the One who’s already claimed the victory.
Battle Prayer: God, thank You for who You are. Thank You for Your victory, that was claimed on Calvary by the blood You shed. Thank You God that You have never left me nor forsaken me and that You are with me in every season. Thank You for Your promises! Thank You that all things are working for the good of those who love You and are called according to Your purpose! Thank You God for the authority that You have given us over the evil one, and that we can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Right now, I silence every lie of the enemy in my life. I cancel every plot, plan and scheme of the devil and declare that I am covered and protected by the blood of Jesus. I declare that I am called and chosen, and that there is nothing that can separate me from the love of God. I thank you for your provision and your hand on my life! Thank You for who You are Jesus. I love You beyond all things. In Jesus name, Amen.
