Your next weekend getaway!
My husband and I recently spent our honeymoon in Kansas City. I know, that might not be the first place you think of when you think "honeymoon," but since I grew up going to Kansas City every summer, I found it to be an exciting challenge searching the internet and filling our honeymoon with activities and places in KC we have never been to before. Coming back from our honeymoon, I can 1000% say our trip was a success and have numerous suggestions on all the best places hit up on your next weekend getaway in Kansas City!
The Inn at Meadowbrook - Prairie Village
The first hotel we stayed at was the Inn at Meadowbrook. This location seriously has everything! It has coffee/food place attached to the hotel called The Market, serving breakfast, lunch, coffee, desserts, and ready-to-go meals 7am-7pm every day! Additionally, they have Ruby's food truck outside, and another attached restaurant called Verbena. There is an outdoor pool and courtyard, multiple ponds/lakes with trails (perfect for running, biking, and walks) and a variety of parks for the kids. This Prairie Village truly feel like an oasis and one-stop shop for visitors. The staff also was incredibly friendly which is always a plus!
Chicken N Pickle - Overland Park
What an absolute vibe and perfect for summer. Chicken N Pickle has multiple locations (not in Omaha), but is certainly worth the trip to KC. When you walk into the area, there is a new outdoor tiki bar, cornhole, ping pong, pickleball courts, bocce ball, giant Jenga, and a variety of outdoor seating. There is a building that includes the indoor pickleball courts, and separate building housing the restaurant. They have a variety of food items including, pulled pork, burnt ends, chicken and waffles, and street corn (highly recommend!). This is the perfect place for families and athletes alike, and course those young at heart taking on some competitive ping pong matches.
Starlight Theater - Swope Park
My husband and I went to the Starlight Theater twice during out recent trip to KC - first, to see our favorite band HAIM in concert, and second, to see Broadway's Hairspray on tour. The parking, entrance, seating, ordering of food/drinks were very seamless and low-stress compared to some arenas and concert venues I have been to in the past. The outdoor and spread-out setting created the perfect atmosphere for a night out. Not to mention the staff at this nonprofit organization was incredibly kind (and down to dance during the performances). Definitely check if your favorite bands or broadway shows will make a stop here in KC. I know 2022 has a STACKED line up of upcoming shows, including Maren Morris, OneRepublic, Alicia Keys, Goo Goo Dolls, Sister Act, and The Prom.
Andy's Frozen Custard - Multiple Locations
This place is the real deal. I first tried this placed a few years ago with my friend Emily when we stayed at an Airbnb in KC that was near an Andy's. Andy's has the efficiency and kind staff like Chick-fil-A, combined with the classic frozen custard like a local ice cream stop. It truly blows Dairy Queen out of the water in my opinion. In the summer, I highly recommend the Blackberry Waffle Jackhammer - simply the best!
Garozzo's - Downtown and Overland Park
I can sum this place up in four words: Best Italian food ever. My husband and I walked in and truly felt like you were taking a step right into the heart of Italy, the walls filled with family photos and candle-lit ambience. We went to the Downtown location, but if you are further southwest in KC, the Overland Park location would be closest to you!
Boulevard Drive-In
This is my all-time favorite drive-in! This one has been one of the longest standing original theaters thats has been around for decades. They have radios already provided that you can detach and place in your car, so you don't have to kill your car battery. Or you can even purchase a $15 mini radio from Target that also does the trick too (Tune in to 89.7 FM). We got to see Top Gun: Maverick there while while we are on our honeymoon.
