Jesus breaks all the rules.
Pastor Eli continued our Mixtape Series with a Word about letting go of baggage that God doesn’t intend on you carrying any longer.
We start off in John 5:1 at a pool named Bethesda where Jesus heals an invalid man who was in this condition for 38 years. This man didn’t know it, but Jesus was about to change his life. Sometimes we miss out on what God plans on doing because we see everyday as just another day. But for this invalid man, this day was divine. No matter where we are at in life, God is on the move. He is ready to redeem and restore to make you whole again.
"When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, 'Do you want to get well?' 7 'Sir,' the invalid replied, 'I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.' 8 Then Jesus said to him, 'Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.' 9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked." John 5:6-9 (NIV)
Have you learned to put up with something that God wants to set you free from?
Whatever baggage you are holding onto, you don’t have to carry those things anymore. Treat this day as a divine day, not just an ordinary day but the day where you are going to drop the baggage and walk in all God has for you. You don’t have to give up on life, you don’t have to take substances to escape your situation, you don’t have to do any of that anymore. DROP IT. And pick up the life God has for you. When Jesus told the man, "Pick up your mat and walk." The word "walk" also means "live." Jesus came for you to have life, and have it to the full!
Are you treating the symptom or the disease?
The man might not have been looking for Jesus, but Jesus was looking for him. God knew about this one specific invalid man, and He knew that the man would be healed on that day. YOU are that specific person that God is looking for. He will go and find you. He left the 99 to find YOU. Jesus is looking to fulfill your need.
"Jesus didn't ask the question, "Do you want to get well?" to get an answer. He asked this question because He is the answer. He wanted to hear the man's response to the very answer that was sitting in front of Him." ~ Pastor Eli Nelson
Are you in a place where you think you’ll never get better? That this is as good as it gets? Just like Jesus asked the invalid man, do YOU want to get well? Today is the day. It was in the heart of Jesus for the man to be made well and whole all along. And the same is for you.
We have a choice. Do we just want to stuff our baggage down and have it come back later, or do we ask God, "How do I treat this and get rid of it for good?" Don’t let this baggage get in the way of what God wants to do in you and through you. Jesus confronts the "BS" (broken belief systems) in our lives to heal and make us whole. He is the only one who can truly heal us and make us whole from the inside out.
